狐假虎威

老lǎo虎hǔ在zài森林sēn lín里lǐ抓zhuā到dào了liǎo一yī只zhī狐hú狸lí，想xiǎng吃chī掉diào它tā。

A tiger caught a fox in the forest and wanted to eat it.

狐hú狸lí说shuō：你nǐ不bù能néng吃chī我wǒ！天tiān帝dì派pài我wǒ来lái管理guǎn lǐ动物dòng wù，你nǐ吃chī了liǎo我wǒ，就是jìu shì不bù听tīng天tiān帝dì的话de huà。

The fox said: you cannot eat me! The Emperor of Heaven sent me to rule the animals; eat me and you defy him.

老lǎo虎hǔ不bù相信xiāng xìn。狐hú狸lí说shuō：你nǐ跟gēn我wǒ走zǒu一yī圈juàn，看看kàn kan动物dòng wù们men怕pà不bù怕pà我wǒ。

The tiger did not believe it. The fox said: walk a round with me and see whether the animals fear me.

狐hú狸lí走zǒu在zài前面qián miàn，老lǎo虎hǔ跟gēn在zài后面hòu mian。动物dòng wù们men看见kàn jiàn了liǎo，都dōu吓xià得děi跑pǎo掉diào了liǎo。

The fox walked in front, the tiger behind. Every animal that saw them fled in fright.

老lǎo虎hǔ不知bù zhī道dào动物dòng wù们men怕pà的de是shì自己zì jǐ，还huán以为yǐ wéi它们tā men真的zhēn de怕pà狐hú狸lí。

The tiger never realized the animals feared him, and truly thought they feared the fox.
