不用钱包的一天

早上zǎo shang七qī点diǎn，张zhāng敏mǐn在zài楼下lóu xià的de早餐zǎo cān店diàn买mǎi豆浆dòu jiāng和hé包子bāo zi。她tā没有méi yǒu带dài钱包qián bāo，只zhī带dài了liǎo一yī部bù手机shǒu jī。

At seven in the morning, Zhang Min buys soy milk and buns downstairs. She carries no wallet, only a phone.

老板lǎo bǎn把bǎ一yī个gè二维码èr wéi mǎ立lì在zài桌zhuō上shàng。张zhāng敏mǐn用yòng手机shǒu jī扫sǎo了liǎo一yī下xià，输入shū rù金额jīn é，点diǎn一yī下xià确定què dìng，钱qián就jìu付fù好了hǎo le，前后qián hòu不到bù dào十shí秒miǎo钟zhōng。

The owner stands a QR code on the table. She scans it, types the amount, taps confirm, done in under ten seconds.

上午shàng wǔ，她tā坐zuò地铁dì tiě去qù上班shàng bān。进jìn站zhàn的de时候shí hou，手机shǒu jī对duì着zhuó闸zhá机jī一yī刷shuā，门mén就jìu开kāi了liǎo。

In the morning she takes the subway to work. At the gate she flashes her phone and the doors open.

中午zhōng wǔ，同事tóng shì们men在zài手机shǒu jī上shàng一起yī qǐ点diǎn了liǎo外卖wài mài。吃chī完wán饭fàn，她tā顺手shùn shǒu在zài购物gòu wù软件ruǎn jiàn上shàng给gěi家里jiā lǐ的de猫māo买mǎi了liǎo猫māo粮liáng，明天míng tiān就jìu能néng送到sòng dào。

At noon her coworkers order delivery on their phones together. After lunch she buys cat food on a shopping app; it arrives tomorrow.

下午xià wǔ下班xià bān，路边lù biān停tíng着zhuó一yī排pái共享gòng xiǎng单dān车chē。她tā扫sǎo了liǎo车上chē shàng的de码mǎ，骑车qí chē去qù了liǎo菜市场cài shì chǎng。

After work a row of shared bikes waits by the road. She scans one and rides to the market.

菜市场cài shì chǎng里lǐ，卖mài菜cài的de爷爷yé ye奶奶nǎi nai面前miàn qián都dōu放fàng着zhuó二维码èr wéi mǎ。张zhāng敏mǐn买mǎi了liǎo两liǎng根gēn黄瓜huáng guā，又yòu扫sǎo码mǎ付fù了liǎo钱qián。

In the market, even the elderly vegetable sellers have QR codes in front of them. She buys two cucumbers and scans to pay again.

卖mài菜cài的de奶奶nǎi nai笑xiào着zhuó说shuō：现在xiàn zài收shōu钱qián方便fāng biàn多duō了liǎo，不用bù yòng担心dān xīn收到shōu dào假jiǎ钱qián，也yě不用bù yòng找zhǎo零钱líng qián。

The old lady selling vegetables laughs: collecting money is much easier now, no fake bills, no change to count.

晚上wǎn shang回到huí dào家jiā，张zhāng敏mǐn算了suàn le算suàn，这zhè一yī天tiān她tā一共yī gòng付fù了liǎo七qī次cì钱qián，一yī分fēn钱qián现金xiàn jīn也yě没有méi yǒu用yòng过guo。

At home that night she counts: seven payments in the day, not a cent of cash used.

妈mā妈mā说shuō，十shí几jǐ年前nián qián出门chū mén，钱包qián bāo、钥匙yào shi、公gōng交jiāo卡qiǎ一样yī yàng都dōu不bù能néng少shǎo。现在xiàn zài，一yī部bù手机shǒu jī就jìu够gòu了liǎo。

Her mother says a dozen years ago you could not leave home without wallet, keys, and bus card. Now one phone is enough.

地铁站dì tiě zhàn里lǐ，她tā看到kàn dào一yī对duì老lǎo夫妻fū qī对duì着zhuó扫sǎo码mǎ机jī发愁fā chóu。工作gōng zuò人员rén yuán走过zǒu guò去qù，帮bāng他们tā men买mǎi了liǎo两liǎng张zhāng票piào，老人lǎo rén连lián声shēng说shuō谢谢xiè xie。

In the subway she saw an old couple puzzling over the ticket scanner. A staff member came over and bought two tickets for them; they thanked him again and again.

中午zhōng wǔ吃饭chī fàn的de时候shí hou，手机shǒu jī忽然hū rán没méi电diàn了liǎo，张zhāng敏mǐn翻fān遍biàn了liǎo包bāo也yě找zhǎo不到bù dào充电chōng diàn宝bǎo。那nà一yī刻kè她tā才cái发现fā xiàn，没有méi yǒu手机shǒu jī，连lián一yī顿dùn午饭wǔ fàn都dōu买mǎi不bù了liǎo。幸好xìng hǎo同事tóng shì帮bāng她tā付fù了liǎo钱qián。

At lunch her phone suddenly died and no power bank turned up in her bag. Only then did she realize: without a phone she could not even buy lunch. Luckily a colleague paid for her.

这zhè件jiàn事shì让ràng张zhāng敏mǐn想xiǎng了liǎo很hěn久jǐu：手机shǒu jī付fù钱qián对duì年轻nián qīng人rén方便fāng biàn，可kě对duì老人lǎo rén来lái说shuō，世界shì jiè变biàn得děi太tài快kuài了liǎo。技术jì shù跑pǎo得děi快kuài，也yě要yào等děng等děng走zǒu得děi慢màn的de人rén。

It stayed on her mind: phone payment is easy for the young, but for the old the world has changed too fast. Technology runs quickly; it should also wait for those who walk slowly.

回到huí dào家jiā，妈mā妈mā正在zhèng zài用yòng手机shǒu jī学xué着zhuó交jiāo水shuǐ电diàn费fèi。学会xué huì了liǎo以后yǐ hòu，妈mā妈mā高兴gāo xìng得děi像xiàng个gè孩子hái zi：原来yuán lái这zhè个gè也yě不难bù nán嘛ma。

Back home her mother was learning to pay utilities on her phone. When she managed it, she was delighted like a child: so it isn't that hard after all.

晚上wǎn shang算账suàn zhàng的de时候shí hou，张zhāng敏mǐn把bǎ一yī天tiān的de花费huā fèi看kān了liǎo一yī遍biàn：早饭zǎo fàn八bā块kuài，地铁dì tiě来回lái huí十shí块kuài，午饭wǔ fàn二èr十shí二èr，水果shuǐ guǒ十shí五wǔ，电影diàn yǐng四sì十shí。一yī分fēn钱qián现金xiàn jīn没méi碰pèng，一yī天tiān就jìu这么zhè me过去guò qù了liǎo。

That evening Zhang Min reviewed the day's spending: eight for breakfast, ten round-trip on the metro, twenty-two for lunch, fifteen for fruit, forty for the movie. Not a cent of cash touched, and the day simply passed.

当然dāng rán，张zhāng敏mǐn也yě有yǒu担心dān xīn的de时候shí hou：万一wàn yī手机shǒu jī没méi电diàn了liǎo、丢dīu了liǎo怎么办zěn me bàn？所以suǒ yǐ她tā的de包bāo里lǐ，一直yī zhí放fàng着zhuó两liǎng百bǎi块kuài现金xiàn jīn，以yǐ防fáng万一wàn yī。

Still, she sometimes worries: what if the phone dies or gets lost? So she keeps two hundred yuan of cash in her bag, just in case.
